Lake Regional Sleep Medicine Welcomes Taylor Raube, FNP-BC

OSAGE BEACH, Mo. — Lake Regional Health System welcomes Taylor Raube, FNP-BC, to Lake Regional Sleep Medicine. Raube works closely with Sleep Specialist Philip Mataverde, D.O., MPH, to diagnose and treat sleep disorders, including insomnia and sleep apnea.

“We’re pleased to welcome Nurse Practitioner Taylor Raube to our sleep medicine team,” said Michael Burcham, vice president of Lake Regional Physician Practices.  “Sleep is essential for health and well-being, and adding another sleep provider helps ensure our community has access to sleep care.”

Raube knows first-hand the importance of being evaluated and treated for a sleep disorder. In 2013, while she was working as a nurse at Lake Regional, she underwent a sleep study and was diagnosed by Dr. Mataverde with sleep apnea. This disorder causes pauses in breathing that interrupt sleep.

“Lack of good restful sleep impacts every area of your health,” Raube said. “It can contribute to heart problems, diabetes, mood disorders and more. Getting treatment turned my life around. Now I wake up refreshed and ready to go.”

Raube has been a nurse for eight years. It was an unexpected career for her. Back in 2009, she was working on a law degree when her whole life changed.

“My husband, who was only 26 at the time, was diagnosed with bone cancer, and the chances were not good that he would survive five years,” she said. “We moved from California to Missouri to be closer to his family, and I switched to nursing so I could learn how to take care of him.”

Almost 10 years later, Raube’s husband, Dillon, a military veteran, is doing well. Raube, meanwhile, has thrived in her nursing career. After earning her Associate of Science in Nursing from Columbia College in Osage Beach, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Missouri – Columbia and a Master of Science in Nursing from Maryville University in St. Louis. Now she is just one semester away from earning her Doctor of Nursing Practice from Maryville University.

Through all of her experiences and education, one simple truth stands out.

“You have to listen to patients to know how to help them,” she said. “It’s so important, just to listen.”

Raube and her husband have two children and five dogs. She enjoys fishing, hiking and being outdoors. Her family also likes to travel and hopes to visit a new state every year.

Lake Regional Sleep Medicine Clinic is located on the third floor of Lake Regional Hospital. Appointments also are available in Eldon, Laurie, Richland and Versailles. Providers include Philip Mataverde, D.O., MPH; Taylor Raube, FNP-BC; and Robin Wollard, FNP-BC. To make an appointment, call 573-302-2715.

Sleep testing is done at Lake Regional Sleep Center, located on the hospital’s third floor. The center offers a full range of diagnostic testing, including sleep studies (polysomnograms), multiple sleep latency testing (MSLT), maintenance of wakefulness testing (MWT) and home sleep testing (HST). Sleep studies require a physician’s order and are conducted Monday through Saturday nights from 8:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. For more information, visit lakeregional.com/sleep.
