Lake Regional Health System was one of 37 Missouri businesses recently awarded safety grants from Missouri Employers Mutual, which provides workers compensation insurance. The grant will fund the purchase of two Likorall overhead lifts to help Lake Regional take the next step toward improving workplace safety.

Using the overhead lifts, nurses and other care providers can transfer patients from a bed to a chair without any heavy lifting.

“These overhead, motorized lifts protect both patients and our employees from injury,” said Dan Sabourin, R.N., MBA, director of Lake Regional Workforce Wellness. “The lifts reduce the risk of falls and musculoskeletal injuries. We are grateful for our partnership with Missouri Employers Mutual and for this opportunity to improve our workforce safety.”

The check was presented to Lake Regional by representatives of Golden Rule Insurance Agency, the hospital’s broker for workers compensation insurance.

“The grant is part of MEM’s SafetySMARTS program,” said Jeff Bethurem, risk manager at Golden Rule Insurance Agency in Osage Beach. “This initiative aims to reduce both workplace injuries and costs. We were pleased to help Lake Regional apply for this grant and believe it will benefit the organization, its employees and its customers.”
